AUSTRALIAN ARTIST JAQUELINE BURGESS

Jaqueline Burgess, originally from South Africa, studied Fine Art before moving to Europe, where she worked as an artist, muralist, and art teacher at a private school in London. Now based in Wollongong on Australia’s east coast, Jaqueline works full-time from her home studio, focusing on portrait and landscape painting.

Over the last decade, Jaqueline has actively participated in local art prizes and exhibitions. Notable achievements include being a finalist in the 2024 John Villiers Outback Art Prize and The Lethbridge 20000 and a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2016. In 2023, she held a dual exhibition at Gallery Alchemy in Milton, where she is currently represented.

Her work, which predominantly features oils, draws inspiration from the vast Australian landscape she explores, from coastal vistas to inland terrain. Through her paintings, Jaqueline captures the emotions and memories tied to specific places, using a nuanced, reflective palette that invites viewers to connect deeply with her portrayal of nature.

“I paint the beauty I see every day, especially in the Australian landscape. I’ve always imagined that my emotional response to the landscape could be recreated on canvas,” Jaqueline shares.

As her artistic journey evolves, Jaqueline's work is also becoming a deeper expression of her spiritual connection with the landscapes she paints, where each piece reflects not only the physical beauty of the land but the emotional and spiritual energy she feels in those places.
